Immigration Minister Now in Charge of Housing?!

Last week Trudeau shuffled his cabinet including the housing minister position. Ahmed Hussen was replaced, which is not surprising considering that housing prices have doubled under the Liberals and an election is fast approaching. Hussen also owned two investment properties, which speaks to where his personal interest lies.

Now we have Sean Fraser as housing minister, who was previously in charge of immigration. He was responsible for increasing immigration dramatically in a housing affordability and supply crisis. The crisis is especially pronounced in Major Metros like Vancouver and Toronto.

Canada’s population increase by 1.2 million in 2022 alone under Sean Fraser’s watch and they are targeting around half a million more immigrants each year in the coming years. This eye-popping level of immigration combined with the paltry amount of new housing supply as a proportion of the population increase is whats causing the huge supply and demand imbalance.

Very ironic that the new guy in charge of fixing housing is the same person who caused it to go hyperdrive in the first place. Those of us who’s been paying attention should know by now that politics is just a charade. The system just wants to keep the masses content enough not to revolt and to keep the gravy train going for the wealthy. Know the rules of the game and play within it.
